Mixing Business with Pleasure on Facebook

Mixing Business with Pleasure on Facebook

Over and over again I hear clients and colleagues saying how they don’t want their personal facebook mixed with their business: “I want my Personal and Business Facebook kept separate”. They fear sharing too much information. Some think unliking your own Facebook Business Page is the answer.   I truly do not recommend this and here is my argument why:   Unless your friends and family have no idea what your business is (my example is always… “unless you are running a porn business…”) why would you worry about any business page updates showing... [Read the full story]

Not Everyone Follows the Same Rules on Twitter

In all my social media training sessions… I always add in a slide or talk about how Twitter is really a place where you can make Connections, but should not have any expectations on how other people will network with you.  It is something I teach primarily because everyone has different reasons for being ‘on Twitter’.  Just because you would do one action doesn’t mean others will do the same. Connections without Expectations Your reasons for networking with Twitter will really dictate how you behave. The strategy you have in place, whether a formal one... [Read the full story]

Why Creative Facebook Page Names don’t always Work

Why Creative Facebook Page Names don’t always Work

January 3, 2012 · Leave a Comment

If you have recently started a Facebook page – I encourage you to check your page name. This is the title of your page, not your username (which is your unique Facebook link if you have created one).  I want you to think about the words in the name as you read this info.   Recently I have come across a couple pages that I could not find in a Facebook search. Yes, there are some limitations to Facebook’s search function, but part of the reason was because they were named according to the branding.   This can be fine to keep things matching on all areas of your... [Read the full story]

What Do Website Analytics Mean?

What Do Website Analytics Mean?

April 14, 2011 · 1 Comment

Website Analytics are not something you need to be intimidated about. This information you can gather is extremely helpful in your online business planning. How does it work? When people visit your website they leave a trail. Remember Hansel and Gretel? As they wandered through the forest they left a trail of pebbles so they could find their way back home. Well, it’s possible to track your site visitors and get detailed information about what they’re doing, where they’re going, and where they came from, through the use of computer ‘cookies’. When used by website owners... [Read the full story]

The New, New Twitter – What can it do now?

Twitter has begun rolling out their new look and functionality this week. Apparently if you get the app on your iphone, Android or blackberry you will get the new features rolled out sooner directly on Twitter. (just a hint) But if you do not have it yet, be patient it will be there soon enough. The...

Good or Bad – You may still need to Respond

One question I am asked all the time about starting out with Social Media Marketing is:   How do I deal with bad comments and tweets online?   The answer is really you have to make some decisions about what to do and how you will handle this negativity if it comes up.
