Social Media outsourcing – what not to outsource

I did a seminar last week with one of my clients, Denise Wakeman – I was speaking to her Online Visibility Class about how a Virtual Assistant works with clients and what kind of tasks we can do with regards to social media.

There are many tasks that can easily be outsourced and can help you add time to your day; scheduling updates about an upcoming event or class, uploading and changing to a new profile picture on all your networks, posting events on facebook and even helping you learn more about using social media.

One other part of outsourcing social media tasks also came up on the call – What not to outsource with social media. You!

I firmly believe social media and online networking works best when the account holder is there online, in real time and on a regular basis.  I know I have mentioned it before, but I feel it is worth repeating. And not just because you shouldn’t have someone ghost-tweeting for you, but also because if you never visit your social media networks you may be missing out on opportunities, opportunities that only you can see.

If someone poses a question on your facebook page that is detailed and could easily lead to more of a conversation and even signing the client or selling your product – a standard response from a VA doing your social media tasks for you may not do the trick.

You are the expert in your business – you have the skill, your Virtual Assistant has other skills.  There may be key words in the questions posed that would make you say something that can affect that person into taking action.  A standard response will not always accomplish this type of result.

be real on social mediaThat is the YOU factor in social media, especially if you are a small business where the face of the business is in fact you. Don’t sell yourself short – if you have a VA helping you, use their time wisely on tasks that can be done in the background and leave the connecting, the conversations, and the contact to you.  Jump on Facebook or Twitter or Linked In and look for the clues/phrases that can bring you the results you want to see.

Take your head out of the sand ( I say this nicely) and be seen, be heard – let people get to know you. You didn’t build your business in one day and it will take some time to build your online reputation as well, slow and steady and you will find results in the end from your efforts.

So true Joshua, especially in the case where someone might spend hours or days on tasks that someone else can do in minutes.
