The Importance of Blog Commenting

Would you like to drive more traffic to your site?

One easy way of increasing your website traffic is through commenting on other web and blog sites in your niche.

How? Well, commenting gives you backlinks to your site. Backlinks are incoming links to a website or web page. When you leave a comment with your name and website other users are able to click on your comment and go you your site.

Another important note about backlinks is SEO (Search Engine Optimization). Your ranking in search engines is increased with the more backlinks to your site. Better rankings, mean better chances of being found in an internet search. Google for example uses Page Rank a link analysis algorithm. This algorithm assigns your site a weighted number based on how many links you get from other sites. But the number is also dependent on the importance of the other sites.

Here is a small image of how the algorithm works:

This leads me to conclude that you should post comments to reputable sites within your niche. Take for example Social Media. Posting to Mashable would help your ranking on Google. Mashable is a well ranked site, and your name and link would be in that high-ranking site.

Commenting on our post here, for example, can also help drive traffic. The first commenter on any post will get the most clicks to their site. People tend to follow on the first few then the most valuable… so make it good.

With respect to your web or blogsite, if people comment on your blog post, you should try to comment back. Everyone likes to be heard and will be more likely to comment again if you respond.

Another tip is to create your site so that it is easy to leave comments. Install a nested comment plugin such as WordPress Thread Comment. And always have your RSS feed link easy to find – that way readers can easily subscribe to blog post updates automatically.
