Misamis Occidental – A Relaxing Afternoon at Cotta Beach and Plaza De Los Jesuitas

Cotta Beach is located just outside Cotta Fort. So, after paying homage to the Virgin of Triumph at the Cotta Shrine, I walked towards the beach area to check things out. The beach has black sand and a narrow shoreline. At one end is a community and at the other is the Port of Ozamiz City. As the fort is very near the sea, a breakwater was built as a protection from the waves which made way for the construction of the Plaza De Los Jesuitas.

When I arrived, there were a lot of locals enjoying their Saturday afternoon. Some are eating at the food kiosks scattered at the plaza, while the others are just taking pleasure from the cool breeze of the air and the fine-looking view of the beach.

This is what I like most in the provinces, seeing people enjoying the simple things. Children playing around, teens just hanging out and elders enjoying the place. Families, friends and lovers having a great time. Very relaxing!

What really caught my attention was the young men skim boarding at the beach’s shoreline. I sat at the breakwater and watched them as they showcase their skim boarding skills. Awesome!

As the beach is at the east side, I am sure that the best time to visit it is at dawn to enjoy watching the sun rise and have some dose of morning sunshine.

HOW TO GET THERE
It is located within the vicinity of Cotta Fort which is very near Ozamiz City Port. From the city center, you can take a leisurely walk to the fort for about 10 minutes or take a tricycle and the driver can bring you there. Then walk towards the beach area via the Cotta Shrine’s entrance.

This is a part of my trip to the cities of Marawi, Iligan and Ozamiz last September 16-18, 2011. Ozamiz City in Misamis Occidental is the 39th province on my list and a part my 10th solo trip.
